Training session and live demonstration event for Service 5 and its experience on Pilot 4. Ljubljana, Slovenia
BUILDSPACE brings together advanced digital tools and data-driven methods to assist decision-makers in predicting climate risks and enhancing sustainability at both the building and city scale.
BUILDSPACE provides five decision-support services integrated into a central platform. These services are being tested in four pilot locations across Europe — Poland, Latvia, Greece, and Slovenia — each focusing on a specific urban challenge. Among them, Pilot 4, based in Ljubljana, Slovenia, is centred on the theme of urban flood resilience, delivered through Service 5 (SE5). This service empowers a diverse range of stakeholders with actionable insights to enhance climate resilience in European cities, designed to assess and mitigate the impacts of urban flooding.
To showcase the real-world impact and value of this work, the project is organising two interconnected events:
A training session on May 21st, 2025.
A live demonstration event on June 5th, 2025.
These events are highly relevant for our stakeholders, offering a unique opportunity to understand how the service works and to experience it firsthand.
Training Session
The first event within the context of SE5. Urban Flood Analysis and Resilience is an online training session. It will serve as an introduction to the goals and technologies behind the service development. The session is expected to bring together a wide range of relevant local and European stakeholders, including municipalities of the Ljubljana urban region, regional development agencies, utility companies, spatial planners, and policy advisors. With a strong emphasis on stakeholder engagement, the training will aim to bridge the gap between cutting-edge technology and real-world application.
The training will:
Motivate stakeholders by showcasing the real-world benefits of Service 5. Urban Flood Analysis and Resilience,
Raise awareness of the project’s methods, technologies, and expected results in the service
Equip participants with the knowledge to use Service 5 in their local contexts.
The agenda will feature multiple presentations, including an overview of Pilot 4, a technical breakdown of the SE5 service, and a discussion on replication potential in other regions. The session will conclude with a demonstration of the Service 5. Through this, participants will gain insights into how the service can support evidence-based urban planning and the design of blue-green infrastructure. This training session will be delivered in English, ensuring clarity and consistency for the international audience.

Live Demonstration Event
Following the training session, the in-person live demonstration event will offer a broader opportunity to engage stakeholders and showcase the real-world applications of Service 5. The live demonstration will highlight how the service was tested in Ljubljana, offering interactive flood maps, damage projections, and Blue-Green Infrastructures (BGI) strategy evaluations. Attendees will be able to see firsthand how the tool can support planning decisions and investments in urban resilience — especially as cities prepare for more frequent and intense flooding due to climate change.
During the event, stakeholders will have the chance to try out the service themselves, with guidance from the developers, IMZI and NAZKA. This hands-on experience will help participants see how the service works, what kind of results it produces, and how it can support the development of more resilient cities. Attendees are advised to bring their laptop to have the chance to explore and test the service in real time.
Crucially, the demonstration will illustrate the social impact of the service. By supporting informed urban planning, promoting the adoption of sustainable solutions, and encouraging stakeholder collaboration, the service will contribute directly to BUILDSPACE’s goal of empowering cities to become more adaptive, equitable, and environmentally sound. The live demonstration event will be conducted in both English and Slovenian, allowing for inclusive participation and engagement from local stakeholders.
